MUSICBIRD CONTINUES TO SCALE WITH ACQUISITION OF MAJID JORDAN’S PUBLISHING CATALOGUE
MusicBird has acquired the publishing catalogue of R&B duo Majid Jordan, the Toronto-based artist and production duo behind a host of multi-platinum-selling hits. The deal comprises the publishers’ and writers’ shares of their catalogue, including their seminal records “Her,” “Gave Your Love Away,” and “Stars Align,” as well as co-writes for other artists such as “Hold On, We’re Going Home” by Drake and “For Free” by DJ Khaled.
The transaction has been completed in quick succession to MusicBird’s recent deal with the estate of iconic grunge producer Rick Parashar and further strengthens the diversity of its portfolio of carefully selected music rights in proven hit songs, growing it to more than 2,000 songs from several hundred artists. The Company manages its portfolio in close partnership with publishers, labels, and other industry stakeholders, with the aim of delivering significant income and valuation growth.
Majid Jordan is a Canadian-Bahraini R&B duo consisting of MajidAl-Maskati and Jordan Ullman. Formed in 2011, the group found success with their debut EP A Place Like This, released via Drake’s OVO Sound imprint – where they continue to be signed today – and went on to achieve international recognition for the 2013 global hit “Hold On, We’re Going Home” from Drake’s Nothing Was the Same album, a single that reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Outside of their artist project, both Majid and Jordan have co-written and co-produced tracks for a host of artists including Drake, Beyoncé, DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and more.
MusicBird’s investment comprises both the writers’ and publishers’ shares from the Maskati and Ullman catalogues. Collectively, these recordings and collaborations have generated billions of global streams, establishing them as key contributors to the international success and evolution of modern R&B and pop production.
Paul Brown, CEO of MusicBird, said: “With proven, long-term success across genres underpinned by dedicated fanbases, MajidJordan’s catalogue aligns with MusicBird’s strategy as we continue to build a diverse, hit-driven collection of music rights.
“With Jordan and Majid producing chart hits with some of the world’s biggest names and having a huge influence on modern R&B and pop music, their catalogue adds further pedigree, commercial success, and diversity to our growing portfolio. Their music also has plenty of potential to find new fans, providing a significant opportunity to grow the value of these songs in the coming years.”
MusicBird’s portfolio includes income streams from publishing, masters, neighbouring rights, and producer and mixer royalties from a host of iconic artists and songwriters, including songs recorded by artists such as Rihanna, Alice In Chains, Jason Derulo, OneRepublic, Nickelback, Shaggy, Sean Kingston, and Ultravox.
