Dougie Thomson is a Scottish musician and bassist best known for his long tenure with Supertramp. Raised in Glasgow, he honed his craft in pub bands and club circuits before joining the group in 1972. His musical rapport with songwriters Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson became a cornerstone of the band’s identity, helping to anchor a period of transition and shape Supertramp’s evolving sound.
Thomson was a key member of Supertramp’s classic lineup, appearing on a series of landmark albums including Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis?, Even in the Quietest Moments…, and Breakfast in America. Released in 1979, Breakfast in America became one of the best-selling albums of all time, earning two Grammy Awards, while “The Logical Song” received the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.
Over 15 years and seven studio albums, Thomson toured extensively with Supertramp and helped build a catalog that has sold tens of millions of records worldwide. After leaving the band in 1988, he remained active in the music industry on the business side, working in publishing, A&R, and artist management, and contributing to the development of a wide range of artists and projects beyond his work on stage.
